Edit a mind map
Explore a material's mind map, rewrite its outline, and export it as an image.
A mind map lays out the main ideas of a video or document as branches around its topic. SceneSnap generates it from the material; course editors can then rewrite it. Open a material and choose the Mind Map tab.
Menu names in this guide follow the English interface.
Explore the map
| Action | How |
|---|---|
| Collapse or expand a branch | Select the small circle where the branch splits. Only branches with sub-branches have one. |
| Zoom | Use + and − at the bottom right of the map, on tablet and larger screens. |
| Zoom with the trackpad or mouse | On a Mac, pinch or hold Ctrl while scrolling; scrolling alone moves the map. Elsewhere, scroll to zoom. |
| Move around | Drag the map. |
Who can edit
Editing is for course editors. Learners, and editors previewing the course as a learner, see the map without the edit button.
You edit the map in the material's original language. If the language menu shows a translation, switch to Original language first.
Edit the outline
- In the Mind Map tab, select Edit (the pencil).
- The map's outline opens in a text field beside the map, or below it on smaller screens. The map redraws as you type, so you see each change before saving.
- Choose Save to keep your changes, or Cancel to discard them. A map cannot be saved empty.
Your edit replaces the map for everyone who can open the material. Translations made before your edit are discarded; opening the map in another language translates your edited version.
Outline syntax
The outline is Markdown. Headings and list items become branches, and their nesting decides where each branch sits.
| You write | The map shows |
|---|---|
# Photosynthesis | The central topic. |
## Phases | A branch from the topic. |
- Light reactions | A branch under the heading above it. |
- Chlorophyll (indented by two spaces) | A branch under the list item above it. |
**bold**, *italic*, [link](https://example.com) | Formatted text inside a branch. |
For example:
# Photosynthesis
## Phases
- Light reactions
- Chlorophyll
- Calvin cycle
## Products
- Glucose and oxygen
