Integrations
LTI
Open SceneSnap from your LMS with LTI 1.3, sign-in handled by the LMS.
SceneSnap is an LTI 1.3 tool. The LMS signs every launch, so learners and teachers open SceneSnap from a course activity without signing in again.
Supported: resource link launches and deep linking. LTI 1.1 remains available for integrations that already use it.
Set up
-
SceneSnap sends you the tool values. Register SceneSnap as an external tool in your LMS with:
Value Where it goes in the LMS OIDC login initiation URL Login URL or initiate login URL Redirect URI Redirection URI(s), also the target link URI Public keyset URL Public JWKS URL Deep linking URL Content selection URL -
You send SceneSnap your platform values: issuer, client ID, deployment ID, authorization (login) URL, access token URL and public keyset URL.
-
SceneSnap registers the platform and links it to your organization. Launches from a deployment it does not know are refused.
What happens at launch
- SceneSnap verifies the LMS signature on every launch. Each launch can be used once.
- Launches use a separate LMS session. If browser restrictions prevent embedded access, open the activity in a new window from your LMS.
- On the first launch SceneSnap creates the person's account, named as in the LMS, and adds it to your organization.
- A person is identified by their LMS user id on your platform. An email address sent by the LMS never opens an existing account.
Account linking
A person who already uses SceneSnap can link their LMS profile to their own account once, by signing in with Google, Microsoft or your company SSO. All three are offered unless you ask SceneSnap to limit them. From then on every launch opens that account directly, with their courses, progress and permissions.
- Suggested: when the LMS sends the address of a member of your organization, the first launch offers "We found your account. Sign in to connect it". The person may continue without linking. The address is only used to make the offer: nothing is linked without their sign-in.
- Required: enabled by SceneSnap on request, as for SCORM. Every person links their account once before the content opens, optionally limited to your email domains.
If a linked launch opens an account that is not theirs, the person can report it: access from that LMS profile is suspended until it is reviewed.
- The LMS and its launch pages must be registered with SceneSnap before embedding is available.
- The session lasts 12 hours. The LMS decides whether SceneSnap opens inside its page or in a new window.
Roles
| LMS role | In SceneSnap |
|---|---|
| Instructor, teaching assistant, content developer, mentor, manager, administrator, staff | Editor of the course linked to the LMS course |
| Learner, student | Learner. Course access comes from organization membership. |
When a person holds both kinds of role, the instructor role wins.
Where the launch lands
SceneSnap opens the course linked to the LMS course. Custom parameters on the activity can point somewhere more specific:
| Custom parameter | Opens |
|---|---|
video_id | A video |
text_id | A document |
folder_id | A folder of the linked course |
target_url or page | A SceneSnap page, given as a path such as /app/education |
When the LMS cannot set custom parameters, put them in the activity's launch URL instead, for example https://<tool launch URL>?video_id=<id>. Custom parameters win when both are present.
Without a linked course or a parameter, the launch opens the SceneSnap home page.
Deep linking
A teacher or LMS admin adding an activity can pick SceneSnap as the content source. The picker lists the courses shared with the organization linked to the LMS, and any they can edit, with the videos and documents in them. They select a course or material and return it to the LMS as an activity, signed by SceneSnap. Multiple selections are available when the LMS allows them.
When the LMS allows it, Create a gradebook column adds a column with the Maximum score you enter. Creating a column does not enable grade reporting: SceneSnap does not send scores to it.
A link selects what opens; it does not grant learners access. Share the course with the intended organization or group before learners use it.
Data exchanged
The LMS sends SceneSnap, in the signed launch:
| Data | Used for |
|---|---|
User id (sub) | Identifying the person |
| Name | The name on the SceneSnap account |
| Email, when the LMS sends it | Kept with the LMS identity for reference. Never used to sign in or to match accounts. |
| Roles | Course permissions, see above |
| Course id and title, activity id and title | Finding the linked course, and the launch record |
| Custom parameters | Where the launch lands |
SceneSnap returns the signed content selection through deep linking and participates in the sign-in exchange. It does not send grades to the gradebook, report SCORM completion through LTI, or read the course roster.
Troubleshooting
| Situation | What to check |
|---|---|
| The launch is refused | Ask SceneSnap to check the registered issuer, client ID, deployment ID and platform keys. |
| The course opens but a learner cannot access it | Check that it is shared with the learner's organization or group and their membership is active. |
| The picker has no content | Check that the courses are shared with the organization linked to the LMS. |
| The LMS has no grade or completion update | LTI does not report these. Use SCORM when your LMS needs course completion and time. |
