SCORM
Put a SceneSnap course in any LMS that plays SCORM 1.2 packages.
The package is a small launcher, not a copy of the course. Learners open it in the LMS, study on SceneSnap, and the LMS receives their completion and time.
Before you start
- SceneSnap enables SCORM export for your organization and registers the address of your LMS, for example
https://lms.example.com. Packages opened from any other address do not start. - To export, you need to be an admin of the organization and an editor of the course.
Export a course
- Open the course and choose Export for LMS (SCORM).
- Pick the organization. Learners from the LMS join it as members, so the course is shared with the whole organization, read only. If it is not shared yet, choose Make available and download.
- Upload the ZIP to your LMS as a SCORM 1.2 package.
Each export is a new package with its own key. Packages already in your LMS keep working. To disable one, contact SceneSnap.
What the learner sees
- The LMS opens the package: the course title and an Open course button.
- The course opens on SceneSnap, in a new window or inside the LMS page.
- On the first launch SceneSnap creates the learner's account, named as in the LMS. No password and no email are needed.
- The LMS page stays open while the learner studies: it is the page that saves progress to the LMS.
The launcher follows the browser language: English, Italian or Spanish. A launch session lasts 12 hours and opens only that course.
How the course opens
Admins choose it in Admin → Settings → Opening SCORM packages.
| Option | Behavior |
|---|---|
| In a new window | Works with any LMS. If the browser blocks the window, the learner opens it with the button. |
| Inside the LMS | No extra window. It opens in a new window instead when the LMS does not allow it, the space is smaller than 640×480 pixels, or the course does not load within 12 seconds. |
Packages that support this setting read it at launch, so a change applies the next time they open. Older packages may always open a new window; export them again to use the current launcher. If the setting is managed by SceneSnap, contact SceneSnap to change it.
Data exchanged
The LMS sends SceneSnap:
| SCORM field | Used for |
|---|---|
cmi.core.student_id | Identifying the learner. Required: without it the course does not open. |
cmi.core.student_name | The name on the learner's SceneSnap account. |
SceneSnap sends the LMS:
| SCORM field | Value |
|---|---|
cmi.core.lesson_status | incomplete on the first launch, completed when the learner completes the course. |
cmi.core.session_time | Tracked learning time for the current LMS session. Repeated reports update the session total. |
cmi.suspend_data | A launch reference and the time already reported, so the next session continues the count. |
A course is completed when the learner finishes every activity that counts toward completion. The export dialog shows how many activities count.
- When a published path contains required activities, those activities count.
- When there is no published path, or none of its activities are required, all available course activities count.
- An empty course does not complete automatically.
- Once completion is recorded, adding or changing activities does not revoke it.
Repeater and scenarios require a license. Check that learners have one if the completion activities need these features.
No score is sent: the LMS records completion, not a grade.
The launcher checks progress every 45 seconds and when the learner closes the SceneSnap window. It also refreshes when SceneSnap signals completion. If the LMS page was closed earlier, the LMS catches up the next time the learner opens the package.
For each launch SceneSnap also records the LMS address, the IP address and the browser, to verify the launch and keep an audit trail.
Accounts
A learner is identified by their LMS learner id within your LMS connection. Email is never used to match an account.
SCORM 1.2 has no way to prove who the learner is: whoever holds a package can claim any learner id. For this reason:
- a SCORM launch opens a launch-only account, never an account that signs in to SceneSnap on its own;
- the session reaches only the launched course, as a learner.
Account linking
Optional, enabled by SceneSnap on request. On the first launch the learner links their LMS profile to their own sign-in once: Google, Microsoft or your company SSO, all three unless you ask SceneSnap to limit them, optionally limited to your email domains. From then on the course opens from the LMS straight into their account, with their progress.
If a learner sees an account that is not theirs, Not you? suspends access from that LMS profile and signs them out. Access stays suspended until it is reviewed: the learner contacts their administrator.
Troubleshooting
| The launcher says | Cause |
|---|---|
| Open this course from your LMS. | The package was opened outside an LMS. |
| Your LMS did not identify you. | The LMS sent no learner id, or a placeholder such as anonymous. |
| Your browser blocked the window. | The learner opens the course with the button. |
| The course could not start. | The LMS address is not registered, or the package was disabled. Contact SceneSnap. |
